TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Nemangkawi Police Task Force arrested Victor Yeimo in Jayapura, Papua, today, Sunday, May 9, 2021. The Head of Public Relations of the Nemangkawi Task Force, Chief Commissioner M. Iqbal Alqudussy, said that Victor was on the run for organising protests against racsim in Papua in 2019.
“The person in question is currently undergoing an inspection at the Jayapura Regional Police Headquarters,” said the spokesperson of the Nemangkawi Iqbal Task Force in a written statement on Sunday, May 9, 2021.
Iqbal stated, Victor entered the people search list (DPO) in 2019. He is suspected of committing conspiracy and or publishing a news story or issuing a notice that then caused a stir in the community.
“Victor was identified as a suspected riot actor based on the testimony of witnesses who called him the leader of the demonstration and orator who orated about the independence of Papua and provoked the public, resulting in damage to public facilities,” Iqbal said.
A series of protests against racism took place in Papua in 2019. The incident was the culmination of a case of racism that occurred against Papuan students in Surabaya.
